Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Collocation of humanities and science and engineering in the heart of the university
town to strengthen learning, student life, research and entrepreneurship

Client: Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway's premier university for science and technology, and is situated on multiple campuses in the city of Trondheim. The university's arts and humanities programs are mainly concentrated on the university’s suburban campus, and science and technology programs are located at the campus near the city center.

The master plan aims to realign academic and student life programs across its campus locations, and to incorporate the community college system into its physical and organizational structure.

The emphasis in the planning process was to uncover the unique qualities of Trondheim as a university city, and to explore urban design strategies to successfully integrate the social and economic interests of the city with those of the university.

Corneil was the Principal-in-charge for this project while at Sasaki Associates.
